Harrison County was created in 1845 from Daviess County and Mercer County was created in 1845 from Livington County. Both counties are located in the northwestern portion of the state. Due to Missouri being a Slave state, settlers began showing up around 1837 from the Southern states of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. This volume contains biographical sketches of some 400 individuals in these counties and genealogical data on some 9,000 other families / individuals. These persons were not only from VA, TN, NC, and KY but also had large numbers of settlers from OH, PA, IN, IL, and MO along with lesser quantities from the states of DE, GA, IA, MA, MD, ME,NJ, NY, VT,WI, and WV.
