Walker County, Alabama was created in 1821 from Tuscaloosa and Marion counties. It is located in the Northern portion of the state and is surrounded by the counties of Blount, Fayette, Jefferson, Marion, Tuscaloosa, and Winston. This area of Northern Alabama was a major route for persons migrating westward out of or through Tennessee and Georgia.
