Greene County, located in the southwestern portion of the state, was established in 1833 and was named for General Nathaniel Green. When formed in 1833 Greene County covered a much larger territory than today. There are 15 current counties that have come from this same territory. There are 2,380 marriage records given in this volume. The spelling of these records is as they were written at the origin and may differ from the current manner of spelling. Included in these records are the names of the bride and groom, date of the marriage and by whom. There is a listing of the original court record book pages if one can go back to the original material and justify the spelling or the date.
