Ray County, Missouri, located in the northwestern portion of the state, was created on 16 November 1820 and named for John Ray, a member of the State Legislature and member of the first State Constitutional Convention. In this volume of records are included a brief history of the county, the assessor's list for 1821, an abstract of Wills, Administrations and Bonds 1821-1852, and Patrons of the Ray County Atlas of 1877. The Assessor's list will give a great listing of the first settlers in the county and the Patrons of the Atlas is a township by township assessment of those living in the county in 1877 with their origin and/or birth place, date of arrival in Missouir, their present address and occupation.
