Putnam County, Missouri, located on the Iowa border in central Missouri, was established on 28 February 1845 and named for Israel Putnam, hero of the French and Indian War. He later became a General in the American Revolutionary War. In this volume you will find a brief history of the county and Patrons of the Atlas of 1877. This latter piece is one of the most valuable items in the history of a county as it lists each head of the household in every township and range with information as to their Post Office, occupation and when the migrated to the county and from whence they came.
