During the French and Indian War, there were many atrocities on both sides. Lyman Draper, one of the country's earliest historians, recorded the names of those either killed, wounded, or taken prisoners by the enemy in Augusta County, Virginia. At this time, Augusta County covered a great deal of the upper part of the eastern United States with over seven states being taken from it in total or in part. These listings included those on the Monongalia, Holston, New, and Greenbrier Rivers, Reed Creek, South Branch, Fort Vause, Jackson's River and many other areas of the west.
