Dickson County, located in middle Tennessee, on October 25, 1803 the Tennessee General Assembly passed a bill creating Dickson County, the 25th of Tennessee's 95 counties. Dickson was formed from parts of Montgomery and Robertson counties, and named for William Dickson, a Nashville physician and statesman who served in Congress at the time. These records came about shortly after the Civil War ended and marriage of African Americans was legal. The title of the book states "Negro Marriages". These are some of the most unusual for the state as most of the marriages were put into the regular books and included with all other marriages.
