Pemiscot County, located on the Mississippi River on the "toe" of Missouri, was created 19 February 1851. The county was named after a local bayou which was taken from the Fox Indians word "pem eskaw" meaning "side channel". The history of this volume was for the period of 1851 up to the time of the publication of the material in the 1880s. The family sketches were submitted by the families themselves.
