The Alabama State Legislature passed a Law that required Death and Birth reports to be made and that this law would become effective July 1, 1908. These reports were submitted to the Office of the Probate Judge of each county. During this period there were no morticians and few doctors in this county. Not all deaths were reported and some were made by coffin dealers with little more than the name of the deceased. Effective January 1, 1920 these reports were sent to the State Department of Vital Statistics.
