This book contains abstracts of "the records of 'The Church of Christ in Salem' in Waterbury, Connecticut, now known as 'The Congregational Church of Naugatuck,'" which were taken from microfilm of the original. Established as the Salem Society in 1773, the church was not organized until 22 February 1781. Naugatuck was a part of the town of Waterbury until May 1844. "It is important to realize that the several compiled membership lists contain annotations after the original entry. Deaths, dismissals, husbands, excommunications were all added information and are extremely valuable for determining, for example, whether a death date refers to one Sally Smith or another….Cross referencing has been done only when alternate spellings of the same surname are not adjacent to each other in these abstracts."
