A wide variety of information is found in order books including appointments of county officials and militia officers, records of legal disputes heard before the county court, appointments of guardians, apprenticeships of children by the overseers of the poor, naturalizations, road orders, and registrations of free Negroes. This volume contains entries from Lancaster County, Virginia Order Book No. 3, 1686-1696 beginning on page 329 and ending on page 364 for Courts held December 5, 1695 through September 9, 1696; and Lancaster County, Virginia Order Book No. 4, 1696-1702 beginning on page 9 and ending on page 69 for Courts held December 9, 1696 through July 12, 1699.
