The first issue of this newspaper was published on 31 October 1800, under the title National Intelligencer and Washington Advertiser. In 1 January 1813, its name was changed to Daily National Intelligencer. This work continues with transcripts of marriage and death notices; the District of Columbia began keeping public death records on 1 January 1855.
