The Parish Registers of Gulval (Alias Lanisley) in the County of Cornwall [England], 1598-1812

$25.50

These records have been gleaned from the oldest surviving Parish Registers of Gulval. Because the first leaf of the oldest folio had been lost by the time of this transcription, the birth records actually begin in 1599, the marriages and deaths in 1598, and all are carried on through 1812. With the exception of the leaf mentioned, no other portion of the first book appears to be missing; however, there were several severely damaged leaves in a later book that were transcribed as best as they could be. The record is regularly continued with one break, that being those years between 1646 and 1653, when the records were imperfectly kept. The baptism records give the date of the ceremony, the name of the child and father. If the father was not known, then the name of the mother is given. Marriage records typically give the names of both bride and groom, the date, and the names of any witnesses. Sometimes the place of residence for the participants is also given. Burial records supply the name of the deceased and date of burial and occasionally list the husband, wife or parent of the deceased. An appendix of baptisms, marriages and deaths relating to the parishioners of Gulval, which was taken from the registers of other parishes in West Cornwall, is also included. A full-name index adds to the value of this work.
