The text is divided as follows: Part First, providing an introductory outline of the early history of Angus and Mearns; Part Second, "Castles and Towns Visited by Edward I, A.D. 1296," covering Forfar, Farnell, Kinnaird, Montrose, Kincardine, Glenbervie, Durris, Brechin, the Round Tower, Arberbrothoc and Dundee; Part Third, "The Barons who Sore Fealty to Edward I, A.D. 1291-6," covering the families of Maule, Umphraville, Leighton, Fenton, Beaton and Graham; Part Fourth, "The Barons of Angus who Swore Fealty to Edward I, A.D. 1296," covering the families of Arrat, Anand, Baxter, Cameron, Cramond, Dundee, Gardyne, Glenesk, Gourlay, Hay, Inverpeffer, Keilor, Montealt, Napier, Aghleks, Newtober, Ogilvy, Ochterlony, Pollok, Seneschal, Ramsay, Tailleur and Wishart; Part Fifth, "The Barons of Mearns who Swore Fealty to Edward I, A.D. 1296," covering the families of Allardice, Falconer, Middleton, Montfort, Straiton, Thornton, Wishart and Fleming; Part Sixth, "The Abbey of Cupar and the Priory of Restenneth;" and Part Seventh, covering the churches of Dunlappy, Idvies, Kinneties, Logie, Garvock, Kinneff and Dunnottar, and listing members of the Knights Templars and Hospitallers of St. John, the Holy Trinity and St. Germains, and the Ladies of Deceased Barons, A.D. 1296-1306. To aid in further research, the authors have included a bibliographical "List of Authors," citing over 200 sources published as early as the 1600s.
