The Virginia Regimental Histories Series: 52nd Virginia Infantry, 2nd Edition

$25.00

The 52nd Virginia Infantry Regiment is of special interest because it was organized from companies raised in Augusta, Bath and Rockbridge Counties. Much has been written concerning the "Stonewall Brigade" and the cavalry units from the three counties, but the 52nd, and the more than 1500 men who served in it, remained almost unknown and unrecognized. Herein, the author tells the story of the regiment though the records, letters and diaries of the men who fought so valiantly in one of the "other" brigades under Jackson, Ewell and Early.

Muster rolls sourced mainly from the Compiled Service Records in the National Archives, which contain information on the date and place of enlistment, hospital, prisoner of war, clothing and equipment receipts, and other miscellaneous materials are included, as well as the ages, prewar and postwar occupations, and domiciles of former soldiers. This work also offers photographs of several soldiers, as well as a few maps.
