The village of Friedrichstal is sixteen kilometers north of Karlsruhe, Germany. This two-part work is a compilation of Friedrichstal's early church records. Book I covers 1698-1747 and Book II covers 1747-1812. The records consist of births, deaths, marriages and confirmations. Each section has its own index. At the end of the seventeenth century, the Markgraf (ruler) of this region encouraged Protestant refugees to settle in the new village of Friedrichstal. Some of these settlers included the French-speaking Walloons from west of the Rhein River. Therefore, many of the earliest records were written in French, and later the entries were made in German. The author has replicated the original page numbering and date indicators. She has also tried to be faithful to the original language and spelling. A translation guide is provided for those not familiar with French or German. This book will prove valuable to anyone searching for ancestors from the Friedrichstal area.
