This CD-ROM contains electronic image reprints of the following six books of New Hampshire history written by Pauline Johnson Oesterlin and Edgar Gilbert, A. B.: Rockingham County, New Hampshire, Paupers - Pauline J. Oesterlin (1992). This work serves as an index to records found in the New Hampshire State Archives, listing people who were in a position to be supported by Rockingham County or by a town within that county. The entries are arranged alphabetically, and include the name, date and source of support, and the box and document numbers of the records. Hillsborough County, New Hampshire Court Records 1772-1799 - Pauline J. Oesterlin (1996). More than 8,000 Hillsborough County court records, spanning 1772 to 1799, have been abstracted for this index. The data are important not only for purposes of genealogical research and as a history of litigation, but also for the picture of the New England community, and its trades and commerce, which these records provide. New Hampshire 1742 Estate List - Pauline J. Oesterlin (1994). In the 1742 New Hampshire Estate List were over seven hundred different surnames found, many with only one or two representatives. Surnames with roots particular to New Hampshire included Colbath, Cram, Dearborn, Fogg, Keniston, Lamprey, Philbrick, Rand, Sanborn, Sherburne and Towle. Surnames with more than thirty heads of household included Batchelder, Brown, Dow, Page, Sanborn and Smith. Hopkinton, New Hampshire, Vital Records (Vols. 1 and 2) - Pauline J. Oesterlin (1998). All these records have been taken from the original Town Vital Records and two volumes of official church records. This book contains records of births, marriages, and deaths. History of Salem, New Hampshire (Parts 1 and 2) - Edgar Gilbert (1907). Starting in 1620 with the Plymouth Council, Mr. Gilbert works his way through New England's early history and the settlement and development of Salem and its villages. The text includes lists of taxpayers, soldiers, and members of societies, an enumeration (with map) of 653 properties with the names of original and subsequent owners, a biographical and genealogical chapter, and three tables3/4Births (3600 entries), Marriages (1500 entries) and Deaths (1120 entries), drawn from town records dated as early as 1760. With an index of names and subjects, 56 portraits, 64 photographs, maps and charts. The books are presented as graphic images, so the user sees the works just as they were originally published. They are intended to look and function very much like "real" books, i.e., the user looks for entries of interest in the original table of contents or index, and then turns to the page cited and scans it for the desired information. This is accomplished using the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is included on each CD for Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Although there are no electronic indexes, numerous electronic bookmarks have been added which make it easy to navigate through the books and indexes, and to jump from one book to another. This CD is best viewed with monitor resolution 800x600 or higher.
